Ingredients
Feta and Seasonings
- 14 to 16 ounces block feta cheese (two 7-ounce blocks recommended)
- 3 Tbsp avocado oil
- ½ tsp dried oregano or dried parsley
- 1 pinch black pepper
- ½ tsp fresh thyme (optional)
Topping
- ½ cup fig preserves
- ½ cup raw pecans, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the feta.
- Toast Pecans: Place the chopped pecans in a small skillet over medium heat. Stir occasionally and toast for 1 to 3 minutes until they become crunchy. Remove immediately and combine with the fig preserves in a bowl.
- Prepare Feta: Remove the feta blocks from their packaging and place them in a small oven-safe dish, such as a casserole dish. Drizzle avocado oil over the feta, then sprinkle evenly with dried oregano or parsley and a pinch of black pepper.
- Bake Feta: Bake the feta at 400°F for 20-25 minutes until it turns golden brown. Remove from the oven.
- Lower Temperature and Mix: Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Transfer the baked feta to a serving dish and stir gently with a spoon until it becomes creamy.
- Add Toppings and Bake: Pour the fig preserve and toasted pecans mixture atop the creamy feta. Bake again at 350°F for 12-17 minutes until the topping is hot and the cheese is bubbly.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from oven carefully using a trivet or towel as the dish will be very hot. Sprinkle fresh thyme over the dip if using. Serve warm with toasted baguette, pita, or crackers.
Notes
- The recipe uses two 7-ounce blocks of feta for convenience and portion control.
- For variation, try different preserves such as apricot or raspberry and substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds.
- Fresh thyme is optional but adds a lovely herbal aroma and flavor.
- Ensure to toast pecans carefully to avoid burning and bring out their full flavor.
