This Banana Simple Syrup is a delightful homemade sweetener perfect for enhancing drinks and desserts with a rich banana flavor. Made with just a few ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and adds a natural fruity sweetness to cocktails, iced tea, pancakes, and more.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 1 cup of banana simple syrup

Ingredients

Banana Simple Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 ripe bananas, cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Create the sugar base: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, water, and a pinch of salt. Whisk frequently to help dissolve the sugar evenly and gently bring the mixture to a low boil, which should take about 8 to 10 minutes.
  2. Simmer and infuse: Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the saucepan, and let the syrup simmer for 10 minutes while whisking occasionally to ensure the sugar doesn’t crystallize and the mixture remains smooth.
  3. Add bananas: Add the chopped banana pieces to the simmering syrup. Continue to simmer uncovered for another 10 minutes, allowing the banana flavor to infuse thoroughly into the syrup.
  4. Strain and finish: Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the banana solids, leaving behind a smooth, flavorful banana-infused syrup ready to be used or stored.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas for a sweeter, more pronounced banana flavor.
  • Store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • This syrup is excellent in cocktails, coffee, tea, desserts, or drizzled over pancakes and waffles.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar depending on your preference.
  • Make sure to whisk regularly during heating to prevent burning or crystallization.
