Ingredients
For the Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
- 5 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened, divided
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Arrange the slices buttered side down on a clean surface. Top two slices with about 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese each. Then place the remaining slices on top, buttered side facing up, to form two sandwiches.
- Cook the sandwiches: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium heat until melted. Place one sandwich in the skillet and cook until the bottom bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt, approximately 2 minutes. Flip the sandwich carefully and cook for an additional 30 seconds until the cheese is melted completely.
- Finish cooking: Remove the cooked sandwich to a plate. Repeat the process with the second sandwich, adding more butter to the skillet if needed and wiping it out to prevent burning. Cook until golden and cheese is melted.
Notes
- Use softened butter to ensure easy spreading on the bread.
- Cook sandwiches over medium heat to avoid burning the bread while ensuring cheese melts thoroughly.
- Feel free to customize with additional fillings like tomato, bacon, or different cheeses.
- For extra crispy bread, press down gently on the sandwich while cooking.
