Ingredients
Salmon
- 4 to 6 fresh salmon fillets (skin on or off is fine)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Kosher salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons Salmon Rub (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler: Set your oven rack approximately 6 inches from the broiler heating element and turn the broiler on high. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. If using skinless salmon fillets, lightly grease the baking sheet with olive oil or nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the salmon: Place the salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, arranging them skin-side down if the skin is on, and ensure they are spaced evenly. Drizzle each fillet with olive oil, then sprinkle kosher salt over the top. Add an even layer of your favorite salmon rub or freshly ground black pepper if desired for extra flavor.
- Broil the salmon: Slide the baking sheet into the oven under the preheated broiler. Cook the salmon for approximately 9 minutes, or until the fish develops a light golden color on top and easily flakes when tested with a knife. Cooking duration may vary slightly depending on fillet thickness.
- Serve: Remove the salmon from the oven, discard the skin if preferred, and serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges for squeezing over the top to brighten the flavor.
Notes
- For even cooking, try to select fillets of similar size and thickness.
- Watch the salmon closely under the broiler to avoid burning, as broilers can vary in intensity.
- The salmon rub is optional; a simple seasoning of salt and pepper works just as well.
- Letting salmon rest for a minute after broiling can help retain juices.
- This method works well with wild or farmed salmon but adjust cook times if fillets are particularly thick.
