Ingredients
For the Rim and Garnish
- Lime wedges, for the rim
- Tajin seasoning, for the rim
- Wheel of grapefruit, orange, or lime, for garnish
For the Cocktail
- Ice cubes
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 ounces blanco or reposado tequila
- Pinch salt
- Splash grapefruit soda
Instructions
- Prepare the Glass: Run a lime wedge along the rim of a clay cup or an old-fashioned glass to moisten it. Then dip the rim into Tajin seasoning to coat it evenly. Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill.
- Mix the Juices: Pour the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, orange juice, and lime juice directly into the prepared glass over the ice, ensuring a fresh and zesty base for the cocktail.
- Add Tequila and Salt: Pour in 2 ounces of blanco or reposado tequila and add a pinch of salt to balance the flavors. Stir gently but thoroughly to combine all ingredients well without diluting the mixture.
- Finish with Soda: Add a splash of grapefruit soda on top to add effervescence and a hint of sweetness, enhancing the overall brightness of the drink.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a wheel of grapefruit, orange, or lime on the rim or floating on top as a decorative and flavorful accent. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing Cantaritos cocktail.
Notes
- Use freshly squeezed citrus juices for the best flavor. Bottled juices can alter the taste significantly.
- Tajin seasoning not only adds spice but also enhances the citrus notes; substitute with chili powder and salt if unavailable.
- Clay cups are traditional and help keep the drink cold longer, but any old-fashioned glass works well.
- Adjust the amount of grapefruit soda to your taste preference for sweetness and fizz.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the tequila and increase the grapefruit soda slightly.
