Ingredients
Filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 4 cups shredded chicken
- 2 tablespoons green onion, chopped
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 4 tablespoons melted butter (for filling)
Crescent Roll Dough
- 2 cans crescent roll dough (typically 8 oz cans each)
Topping
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- ½ cup traditional bread crumbs
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is fully heated by the time the roll ups are prepared.
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, blend 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 4 tablespoons of melted butter until smooth and creamy.
- Add Chicken and Seasonings: Stir in 4 cups of shredded chicken, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper, 5 tablespoons milk, and 2 tablespoons chopped green onions. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Separate Crescent Dough: Open the 2 cans of crescent roll dough and separate the dough into individual triangles along the perforations.
- Fill and Roll Crescents: Spoon approximately ¼ cup of the chicken mixture near the base of each crescent triangle. Roll each crescent up in the traditional shape, making sure to pinch and seal any open edges to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
- Prepare Topping Mixture: In a small bowl, combine ½ cup traditional bread crumbs with ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese to create the topping.
- Brush and Sprinkle: Lightly brush each crescent roll with 2 tablespoons melted butter, then sprinkle the bread crumb and Parmesan mixture evenly over all the roll ups.
- Arrange for Baking: Place the prepared roll ups in a lightly greased 13x9-inch casserole dish or spread them out evenly on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until the crescent rolls turn a golden brown color and the topping is crispy.
- Serve Hot: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, ideally with a favorite cream sauce or chicken gravy for dipping.
Notes
- For extra flavor, try adding sliced mushrooms or sautéed onions to the chicken mixture before rolling.
- Swap plain cream cheese with chive and onion flavored cream cheese for a more pronounced flavor profile.
- These roll ups can also be served as finger food at parties or as a comforting main dish for dinner.
