Ingredients
Meat and Sauce
- 1 pound ground mild Italian sausage
- 1 15 ounce can pizza sauce
Base
- 2 16.3-ounce tubes large refrigerated biscuits
Vegetables and Toppings
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
- Grated Parmesan cheese, to garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the bubble pizza.
- Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground mild Italian sausage and brown it thoroughly, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Mix sausage with sauce: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the entire can of pizza sauce, combining well to create a savory sausage mixture.
- Prepare biscuit base: Lightly grease a 9" x 13" baking dish. Tear the refrigerated large biscuits into quarters and arrange them in a single layer on the bottom of the dish.
- Par-bake biscuit base: Place the baking dish with biscuit pieces in the oven and bake for 5 minutes to start cooking the biscuits.
- Add sausage layer: Remove the dish from the oven and spread the sausage and pizza sauce mixture evenly over the par-baked biscuit base.
- Add vegetables and pepperoni: Evenly layer the diced onions, green pepper, sliced mushrooms, and sliced pepperoni over the sausage mixture for added flavor and texture.
- Bake the layered pizza: Return the dish to the oven and bake for 20 minutes, allowing the vegetables to soften and the flavors to meld.
- Add cheese topping: Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese generously over the entire dish.
- Final bake to melt cheese: Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and beginning to brown.
- Rest before serving: Let the bubble pizza stand for 5-10 minutes after baking to allow it to set and cool slightly, making it easier to serve.
Notes
- You can substitute mild Italian sausage with spicy for a more robust flavor.
- If you prefer, use homemade biscuit dough instead of refrigerated biscuits.
- Feel free to customize toppings with your favorite vegetables or meats.
- For crispier biscuit edges, bake uncovered as directed.
- Allowing the pizza to rest before serving helps the layers set and flavors meld.
