Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour (210g)
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder (7.5g)
- 1/2 tsp salt (3g)
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder (sifted) (21g)
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup neutral oil (such as corn oil) (112g)
- 1 1/2 cup sugar (300g)
- 4 eggs (53g each)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (6g)
- 1/2 cup milk (125g)
- 1 tbsp milk (15g, for cocoa batter)
Optional Ganache
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (115g)
- 1/4 cup whipping cream (60g)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch nonstick loaf pan to prepare it for the batter.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt together, then set aside.
- Whip wet ingredients: Using a mixing bowl, beat the neutral oil, sugar, and eggs together on high speed for about two minutes until the mixture is light and creamy.
- Add vanilla extract: Stir in the vanilla extract and beat for an additional 30 seconds to combine evenly.
- Alternate adding flour and milk: Add the flour mixture and milk alternately in two batches to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Finish mixing gently with a spatula to avoid overmixing the batter.
- Prepare chocolate batter: Scoop about one cup of the vanilla batter into a small bowl. Add the sifted cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of milk, then mix until just combined to create the chocolate batter.
- Layer batters in pan: Carefully pour alternating dollops of vanilla and chocolate batter into the prepared loaf pan, as the batter is thin it’s best to add slowly and evenly.
- Create marble effect: Use a long skewer or knife to gently swirl the two batters together in the pan to create a marbled pattern.
- Bake the cake: Bake the cake for about one hour or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing.
- Make ganache (optional): Heat the whipping cream until it reaches a simmer. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and stir until melted and smooth. If needed, microwave for an additional 20 seconds and stir again.
- Finish and serve: Spread the prepared ganache evenly over the cooled marble cake before slicing and serving.
Notes
- The cake batter is thin, so pour carefully to maintain the marble effect.
- Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added to keep the cake tender.
- Using neutral oil like corn oil keeps the cake moist without adding extra flavor.
- Allow the cake to cool slightly before removing it from the pan to prevent breaking.
- The chocolate ganache is optional but adds richness and a glossy finish to the cake.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
