Ingredients
For The Naan Bread
- 1/3 cup warm milk
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons grated garlic
- 3-4 tablespoons water for kneading
For The Garlic Butter
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander or cilantro leaves
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: Whisk together warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar in a bowl. Cover and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. If it doesn't froth, restart with fresh yeast.
- Mix dry and wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, plain yogurt, vegetable oil, and grated garlic. Add the activated yeast mixture to this bowl.
- Knead the dough: Gradually knead in 3-4 tablespoons of water to form a soft, smooth, and elastic dough.
- Let the dough rise: Grease the dough with oil, cover with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm spot for at least 2 hours until it doubles in size.
- Shape the naan: Transfer the dough to a clean surface, divide it into 8 equal parts, and flatten each into rounds about ½ inch thick using a rolling pin.
- Prepare garlic butter: Mix chopped coriander, melted butter, and finely chopped garlic in a small bowl for brushing.
- Brush and preheat: Brush each naan with garlic butter. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the naan: Lightly oil the air fryer basket. Place one naan at a time in the basket and cook for 7-8 minutes on one side until lightly golden. Do not flip to keep naan soft.
- Finishing touch: Brush more garlic butter on the hot naan as soon as it comes out of the air fryer. Repeat with remaining naans.
- Serve: Serve warm and enjoy your soft, flavorful garlic naan bread.
Notes
- The milk should be warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- If the yeast mixture doesn’t get frothy, restart with new yeast for best results.
- A food processor can be used to mix dough quickly but avoid overmixing to prevent tough naan.
- Do not roll the naan too thin to keep it soft and not crispy.
- Brushing naan with garlic butter before cooking helps infuse more flavor.
- Preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking and golden color on top.
