These Greek Chicken Burgers are a flavorful and healthy twist on the classic burger, featuring ground chicken mixed with sun-dried tomatoes, fresh dill, oregano, and spinach. Cooked on the stovetop or grilled to perfection, they can be enjoyed plain or topped with traditional Greek accompaniments like tzatziki sauce, feta cheese, and fresh vegetables.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Chicken Burger Patties

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 cup baby spinach, loosely packed and roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

To Serve

  • Butter lettuce leaves
  • Tzatziki sauce
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Sliced onion
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced avocado

Instructions

  1. Make the burger patties: In a medium bowl, combine the ground chicken, diced red onion, minced garlic, finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes, roughly chopped baby spinach, chopped fresh dill, dried oregano, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Use your hands to gently but thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Divide the mixture evenly into 4 portions and shape each into a large, firm patty.
  2. Cook the patties: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 5 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip carefully and cook the other side for another 5 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Alternatively, you may grill the patties over medium heat, cooking for the same duration on each side.
  3. Assemble the chicken burger: You can enjoy the chicken patties plain or assemble them in butter lettuce leaves or buns if preferred. Top each patty with dollops of tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta cheese, sliced onion, tomato, and avocado to create a delicious Greek-inspired burger experience. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh oregano for dried oregano if you prefer a milder fresh herb flavor.
  • Make sure not to overwork the chicken mixture to keep the burgers tender.
  • For gluten-free options, use lettuce leaves instead of buns.
  • Leftover patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated carefully on a skillet or microwave.
