These Greek Yogurt Bagels are a quick and easy homemade treat that combines the tangy creaminess of Greek yogurt with the comforting texture of a classic bagel. Perfectly soft on the inside with a golden, slightly crispy crust, these bagels are an ideal snack or breakfast option that requires no yeast and minimal ingredients.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 bagels

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, plus about 1/4 cup extra for kneading
  • 1 cup 0% Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Topping

  • 1 egg, whisked
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the bagels.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder evenly.
  3. Add Greek Yogurt: Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients and mix together with your hands. The dough may be sticky at first; continue mixing and add more flour as needed by tablespoons until it forms a smoother dough.
  4. Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for a couple of minutes. If it remains sticky, dust your hands with extra flour to manage the stickiness.
  5. Shape Bagels: Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a strand and pinch the ends together tightly to form a bagel shape. Repeat with all pieces.
  6. Prepare and Top Bagels: Place the shaped bagels on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Brush each bagel lightly with the whisked egg, then generously sprinkle the everything but the bagel seasoning on top.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes or until the bagels develop a golden brown top.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
  9. Optional Toasting: For extra crispiness, slice your bagel and toast it for approximately 2 minutes before serving.
  10. Storage: Refrigerate leftovers for 4-5 days or freeze for up to 2 months. To enjoy later, slice and toast the bagels for a couple of minutes to refresh.

Notes

  • Use 0% fat Greek yogurt for a healthier, low-fat option.
  • Adding extra flour while kneading helps manage the stickiness of the dough without making it too dense.
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning adds a delicious, savory crunch to the bagel tops but can be omitted or substituted per preference.
  • These bagels do not require yeast, making them a faster alternative to traditional bagel recipes.
  • To freeze, wrap bagels individually in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag.
  • For best texture, toast bagels after thawing from frozen before serving.
