These homemade garlic knots are soft, flavorful bread knots brushed with a delicious garlic and herb olive oil mixture. Made from pizza dough, they are perfect as an appetizer or side dish and come together easily with simple ingredients. Baked until golden brown and topped with freshly grated Parmesan and herbs, these garlic knots are a crowd-pleasing treat.

  • Total Time: 60-75 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • Pizza dough - enough for one 14-15 inch log (homemade or store bought)

Garlic Topping

  • 4-5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped Italian (flat leaf) parsley
  • 3 tablespoons finely grated parmigiano
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: Make the pizza dough according to your preferred recipe or use store-bought dough.
  2. Shape Knots: Roll the dough into a 14-15 inch log. Cut into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an 8 inch (20 cm) rope and tie into a knot. Place the knots on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, cover with a clean tea towel, and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 45-60 minutes until the dough doubles in size.
  3. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking.
  4. Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, oregano, chopped parsley, grated parmigiano, minced garlic, and salt until well combined.
  5. Brush and Bake: Brush the risen knots with some of the garlic topping mixture. Bake them in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the knots from the oven and immediately brush them with the remaining garlic topping. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade garlic knots.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought pizza dough to save time or prepare homemade dough for a fresher taste.
  • For extra garlic flavor, adjust the amount of minced garlic in the topping.
  • These knots can be served as a side to pasta dishes, salads, or enjoyed as a savory snack.
  • Be sure not to over-bake to keep the knots soft inside.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture.
