These Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups are a delightful appetizer that combines the creamy, spicy flavors of the classic jalapeno popper with a crispy wonton wrapper base. Perfectly baked until golden and topped with melted cheese and bacon, they offer a crunchy, cheesy, and mildly spicy bite-sized treat ideal for parties or snacks.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Wonton Cups

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray, for greasing the muffin pan

Filling

  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 12 oz. bacon, cooked and crumbled (reserve 2 Tbsp.)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (reserve 2 Tbsp.)
  • 3-4 jalapeños, seeded and chopped (for more spice, do not remove all seeds)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s at the right temperature for baking the wonton cups evenly.
  2. Prepare Muffin Pan: Spray a muffin pan lightly with cooking spray to prevent the wonton wrappers from sticking during baking.
  3. Bake Wonton Wrappers: Place one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, pressing gently to form a cup shape. Bake for about 10 minutes until they turn lightly browned and crisp.
  4. Cool Wonton Cups: Remove the baked wonton cups from the oven and allow them to cool slightly so they’re easier to handle before filling.
  5. Mix Filling: In a medium-sized bowl, stir together softened cream cheese, sour cream, crumbled bacon (except reserved 2 tablespoons), shredded cheddar cheese (except reserved 2 tablespoons), and chopped jalapeños until well combined.
  6. Fill Wonton Cups: Spoon the jalapeno popper filling evenly into each wonton cup.
  7. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the reserved crumbled bacon and shredded cheese on top of the filling for added flavor and crispiness.
  8. Bake Filled Cups: Return the filled wonton cups to the oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes until the wontons are golden brown and the cheese has melted beautifully.

Notes

  • For spicier bites, keep some or all of the jalapeño seeds.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to mix smoothly with the other ingredients.
  • Wonton wrappers can burn quickly, so watch closely during the first bake to prevent over-browning.
  • These can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
  • Substitute bacon with turkey bacon or omit for a vegetarian version and consider adding extra cheese or veggies.
