Ingredients
Salmon
- 4 salmon filets, 4-6 ounces each (skin-on)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Lemon Butter Sauce
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley (or basil, or dill), plus more for garnish
- Lemon slices or lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare Salmon: Remove salmon from the refrigerator 15-20 minutes prior to cooking to allow it to reach room temperature. Pat the fillets dry with paper towels, then season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Sear Salmon: Heat olive oil in a medium-sized skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Place the salmon fillets skin side up and cook undisturbed for 5 minutes until a golden brown crust forms.
- Flip and Finish Cooking: Flip the salmon over and cook for another 2-4 minutes, until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily at the thickest part. Transfer the cooked salmon to a plate.
- Make Lemon Butter Sauce: Reduce heat to medium-low. Add butter to the pan and let it melt. Stir in minced garlic and fresh lemon juice, cooking for about one minute until the garlic is softened and fragrant. Remove the skillet from the heat.
- Combine and Serve: Return the salmon to the skillet, spooning the lemon butter sauce over the top. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley or your choice of fresh herbs. Serve immediately with lemon slices or wedges for squeezing, alongside additional fresh herbs if desired.
- Storage and Reheating: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over medium-low heat or in the microwave.
Notes
- Allowing salmon to reach room temperature helps it cook more evenly.
- Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets; make sure the fish is opaque and flakes easily.
- For an extra lemony flavor, include the optional lemon zest in the sauce.
- Use fresh herbs like parsley, basil, or dill according to preference for garnish and flavor.
- Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure a crispy, golden crust.
- Reheat leftovers gently to avoid overcooking the salmon.
