- 60 ml sugar syrup
- 6 – 8 fresh mint leaves
- ¼ fresh jalapeño
- Ice (about 10 cubes)
- Soda water, to top up the glass
Garnish & Glass Preparation
- Extra lime wedges for garnishing
- Additional mint leaves for garnish
- Chilli salt to rim the glass
- Medium-sized glass
Instructions
- Prepare Mango Purée: Puree 1 large mango until smooth and measure out about ¾ cup of mango puree into a jug. Ensure the puree is uniform with no large chunks.
- Mix Cocktail Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add the white rum, lime juice, sugar syrup, mint leaves, and ¼ of a fresh jalapeño. Gently muddle the mint and jalapeño to release their aromatic oils and flavors without overcrushing.
- Add Ice and Shake: Add about 10 ice cubes into the shaker. Shake vigorously to combine flavors and chill the mixture thoroughly.
- Prepare Glass Rim: Coat the rim of a medium glass with chilli salt according to your desired spice level. Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill.
- Combine and Stir: Strain the cocktail mixture from the shaker through a strainer into the prepared mango purée. Stir the mixture well to blend the mango with the cocktail flavors.
- Assemble the Drink: Pour the mango-cocktail mixture into the glass, filling it about ¾ of the way. Top up the glass with soda water to add effervescence and lighten the drink.
- Garnish and Serve: Give the drink a gentle stir to mix the soda water evenly. Garnish with lime wedges and fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately for best flavor and chill.
Notes
- Adjust jalapeño quantity based on your preferred spice level.
- Use fresh mint leaves for the best aroma and taste.
- Chilli salt can be made by mixing coarse salt with chili powder for a homemade spicy rim.
- If you prefer a less sweet cocktail, reduce sugar syrup accordingly.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit rum and increase soda water or use sparkling water.
- Ensure mango is ripe and sweet for a balanced flavor.
