A refreshing and vibrant Matcha Lemonade combining the bright acidity of fresh lemon juice with the earthy, antioxidant-rich flavor of matcha green tea, lightly sweetened with maple syrup and served chilled over ice. Perfect for a quick, revitalizing drink on a warm day.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Matcha Lemonade Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons (40 ml) fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) water
  • 2 tablespoons (25 ml) maple syrup
  • Ice cubes, as needed to fill the glass
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) warm water (around 70°C / 160°F)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lemonade: Squeeze fresh lemon juice into the serving glass. Add half a cup of water and the maple syrup, then stir well to combine the ingredients into a balanced lemonade base.
  2. Add Ice: Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the lemonade, setting the stage for a refreshing layered drink.
  3. Prepare Matcha: Sift the matcha powder over a small bowl using a fine mesh sieve to break up any clumps. Add 3 tablespoons of warm water (around 70°C/160°F) and whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk or regular whisk in zig-zag (Z and M) motions until smooth and frothy.
  4. Combine and Serve: Pour the prepared matcha tea over the lemonade and ice in the glass. Stir gently to blend the layers and flavors. Serve immediately to enjoy at its freshest.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best bright and natural flavor.
  • Maintain the water temperature for the matcha at about 70°C to preserve its delicate flavors without bitterness.
  • Sifting matcha ensures a smooth, clump-free tea.
  • Maple syrup adds a natural sweetness that complements the lemon and matcha without overpowering them.
  • For a vegan or refined sugar-free option, maple syrup is ideal as a sweetener.
