Ingredients
Crust
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Filling
- 12 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 8 ounces Cool Whip
Fruit Layers
- 3 to 4 bananas, sliced
- 20 ounces canned crushed pineapple, drained well
- 16 ounces strawberries, hulled and sliced
Topping
- 8 ounces Cool Whip
- ½ cup walnuts, chopped
- Chocolate syrup, for drizzling
- Maraschino cherries, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter, stirring with a fork until all crumbs are evenly moistened. Press the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish. Place the crust in the refrigerator to chill while preparing the filling.
- Make the cream cheese filling: In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese and granulated sugar on medium speed for about 3 minutes until light and fluffy. Gently fold in 8 ounces of Cool Whip using a rubber spatula until well combined. Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled graham cracker crust.
- Layer the fruits: Arrange sliced bananas in a single layer over the cream cheese filling. Next, evenly spread the drained crushed pineapple over the bananas, followed by an even layer of the sliced strawberries.
- Add the topping: Cover the fruit layers with the remaining 8 ounces of Cool Whip, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle chopped walnuts over the whipped topping and drizzle with chocolate syrup. Garnish with maraschino cherries for a classic banana split look.
- Chill and serve: Refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to let the flavors meld and the dessert set. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Notes
- Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for smooth mixing and best texture.
- Drain the crushed pineapple thoroughly to avoid soggy crust.
- This dessert can be made a day in advance for convenience.
- For added texture, substitute or add chopped nuts like pecans or almonds instead of walnuts.
- Use fresh fruit for the best flavor; if out of season, frozen fruit can be used once fully thawed and drained.
