This classic Peach Cobbler recipe is a delightful American dessert that combines sweet, juicy peaches with a tender, buttery batter. Perfectly baked to golden perfection, it’s easy to prepare using fresh or canned peaches, making it a year-round favorite to enjoy warm, especially with a scoop of ice cream.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 9 servings

Ingredients

Peach Mixture

  • 5 peaches, peeled, cored and sliced (about 4 cups) (or 600-700 g)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Batter

  • 6 tablespoons butter (85 g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk (180 ml)
  • Ground cinnamon, to sprinkle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peach Mixture: Add the sliced peaches, sugar, and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release their juices. Remove from heat and set aside. (If using canned peaches, skip this step and start from step 3.)
  2. Preheat Oven and Melt Butter: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the butter into pieces and place them in a 9x13 inch glass baking dish. Put the dish in the oven while it preheats to melt the butter. Once melted, carefully remove the dish from the oven.
  3. Make the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk just until combined; avoid over-mixing to keep the batter tender.
  4. Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish, spreading it out smoothly into an even layer. Spoon the peach mixture along with the juices over the batter. Generously sprinkle ground cinnamon on top for added warmth and aroma.
  5. Bake the Cobbler: Bake in the preheated oven for 38-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  6. Serve: Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.

Notes

  • To substitute canned peaches, use a 1-quart jar of undrained peaches; skip the stovetop cooking step.
  • For gluten-free adaptations, use gluten-free flour blends such as Cup4Cup or King Arthur Measure for Measure.
  • Serve warm to fully enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the cobbler.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat before serving.
