A deliciously crispy Parmesan crusted tilapia recipe that is quick and easy to prepare. Featuring a flavorful blend of Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and spices, this baked fish is perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner. Serve it with fresh lemon wedges and parsley for a bright, fresh finish.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Fish

  • 4 tilapia fillets

Coating

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs or regular breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Others

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted, or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and lightly coat it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Fillets: Pat the tilapia fillets dry using paper towels to remove any excess moisture and arrange them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make Parmesan Coating: In a small bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  4. Brush with Butter or Oil: Brush the tops of the tilapia fillets with melted butter or olive oil to help the coating adhere and promote browning.
  5. Apply Coating: Evenly sprinkle the Parmesan breadcrumb mixture over the buttered tops of the fillets, pressing down gently to ensure the topping sticks firmly to the fish.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque, flakes easily with a fork, and the crust on top is golden and crisp.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the fish.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
  • Make sure to pat the fish dry thoroughly to help the coating adhere better and avoid sogginess.
  • You can use olive oil instead of butter for a dairy-free option.
  • Serve this dish with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
