Ingredients
For the Mojito
- 1½ tablespoons granulated sugar
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- ¾ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice (from 1 lime)
- 2 ounces silver rum
- Soda water, to top
For Garnish
- Mint sprig
- Lime wedge
Instructions
- Muddle the Ingredients: In a highball glass, gently muddle the sugar, mint leaves, and half of the freshly squeezed lime juice. This releases the mint oils and combines the flavors with the sugar and lime juice.
- Add Alcohol and Lime Juice: Pour in the silver rum along with the remaining lime juice.
- Fill with Ice and Soda: Fill the glass with ice cubes, then top off with soda water to your desired level, typically filling almost the entire glass.
- Stir the Drink: Stir the mixture thoroughly to combine all the ingredients and chill the cocktail evenly.
- Garnish and Serve: Finish off by garnishing with a fresh sprig of mint and a lime wedge, then serve immediately for optimal freshness and flavor.
Notes
- Use fresh mint leaves for the best flavor; avoid bruised or wilted leaves.
- Adjust sugar quantity based on your sweetness preference.
- Silver rum is preferred for a clean and crisp taste, but white rum can be used as a substitute.
- Use freshly squeezed lime juice rather than bottled for the freshest flavor.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the mint and lime at their freshest.
