Ingredients
For the Dough and Base
- 3/4 pound pizza dough, at room temperature
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon crushed fennel
- Sea salt, to taste
- Chili flakes, to taste
- 1-2 tablespoons fig preserves
Cheeses and Toppings
- 1/3 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 ounces prosciutto
- 1/3 cup fresh basil leaves
- Honey, for drizzling
Salad Topping
- 2 cups baby arugula
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Position the oven rack in the upper third of your oven and preheat to 500°F (260°C) for at least 30 minutes, ideally 1 to 2 hours for thorough heating. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well, ensuring a crispier crust.
- Prepare Garlic Oil: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, chopped fresh garlic, dried oregano, crushed fennel, sea salt, and chili flakes. Stir well to infuse the oil with the flavors.
- Shape the Dough and Add Toppings: On a floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough into a thin 12-14 inch round. Transfer it to a lightly oiled sheet pan. Spread the prepared garlic oil mixture evenly over the dough, then spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of fig preserves on top. Place dollops of ricotta cheese evenly over the surface, sprinkle the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses, and scatter fresh basil leaves. Finally, arrange the prosciutto slices on top.
- Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven (on the top rack or on the pizza stone). Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, then rotate the pan for even cooking. Bake for an additional 2 minutes or until the crust turns golden and the cheese melts and bubbles.
- Add Final Toppings and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven. Drizzle honey lightly over the hot pizza and sprinkle extra chili flakes if desired. Top with fresh baby arugula tossed in balsamic vinegar, then finish with grated parmesan cheese. Slice and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Preheating the oven and pizza stone is essential to achieve a crispy crust.
- You can adjust the amount of chili flakes and honey to suit your preferred level of spiciness and sweetness.
- Using fresh basil adds a bright herbaceous flavor, but you can substitute with arugula if preferred.
- If you don’t have fig preserves, a mild fruit jam like apricot can work as a substitute.
- For a crispier crust, bake directly on a pizza stone or an inverted baking sheet.
