Ingredients
Strawberry Simple Syrup
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed & quartered
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
Strawberry Margarita
- 4 ounces fresh strawberry simple syrup
- Salt + sugar for the rim (or just salt, if preferred)
- 2 ounces Tequila
- 1.5 ounces Grand Marnier (or Triple Sec)
- 3 ounces lime juice
- Lime slices for garnish
- Fresh strawberries for garnish
Instructions
- Make the strawberry syrup: Place the quartered strawberries, water, and sugar in a medium to large pot on the stovetop. Stir gently to combine and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes to extract the strawberry flavor and dissolve the sugar fully. After simmering, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a heat-proof container, discarding the solids. Allow the syrup to cool completely, then refrigerate it for up to two weeks. This syrup can also be used for desserts like ice cream or pancakes, or as a flavorful addition to drinks like strawberry milk or pink lemonade.
- Prepare the glass rim: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your serving glass to moisten it. Dip the rim into a mixture of about 3 tablespoons salt and 2 teaspoons sugar, or just salt if preferred, creating a flavorful crust on the edge of the glass. Fill the glass with ice to chill the drink properly.
- Mix the margarita: In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces of tequila, 1.5 ounces of Grand Marnier or Triple Sec, 4 ounces of the prepared strawberry syrup, and 3 ounces of fresh lime juice. Add ice to the shaker, then shake vigorously for about 30 seconds to chill and blend the ingredients well.
- Serve and garnish: Strain the margarita mixture over the ice-filled glass. Garnish with fresh lime slices and a few fresh strawberries for a beautiful, aromatic presentation. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing flavors.
Notes
- You can store the strawberry simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- The salt and sugar rim can be adjusted to taste—use more sugar for a sweeter rim or just salt for a traditional margarita touch.
- Grand Marnier can be substituted with Triple Sec if preferred.
- Adjust the amount of lime juice or syrup to suit your personal taste for sweetness or tartness.
- This syrup can also be used as a versatile ingredient for desserts and beverages beyond margaritas.
