Ingredients
For the Burger Patties
- 800 g ground chicken
- 1 red onion, finely diced
- 150 g feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 egg
- Big pinch of flaky sea salt
- Lots of ground black pepper
For Assembling
- 1 gem lettuce, thinly sliced
- 2 large tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 400 g tzatziki
- Mayonnaise, to taste
- 8 burger buns
- Vegetable oil, for frying and toasting
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, finely diced red onion, crumbled feta, dried oregano, balsamic vinegar, egg, sea salt, and ground black pepper. Mix gently with a fork or hands to integrate ingredients without overworking. Form the mixture into eight equal-sized patties about 3-4 inches in diameter, shaping them into dense balls but avoiding kneading to keep texture intact.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and drizzle with vegetable oil. When hot, add the patties, cooking for 5 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip each patty and press down lightly to flatten slightly, cooking for an additional 3 minutes until cooked through. Remove from heat, cover loosely with aluminum foil to keep warm.
- Prepare the Fresh Toppings: While the patties cook, slice the tomatoes and lettuce thinly, and have tzatziki ready for assembling.
- Toast the Buns: Using the same skillet, place the buns cut side down and toast lightly for a few minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
- Assemble the Burgers: On the base of each toasted bun, spread a squeeze of mayonnaise. Top with a cooked chicken burger patty, a generous layer of tzatziki, sliced tomato, lettuce, more tzatziki, and then the top bun. Serve immediately with chips or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
Notes
- Do not overwork the burger mixture to keep the patties tender and juicy.
- Using two skillets can help cook all patties simultaneously to save time.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste, especially salt and pepper.
- Tzatziki can be homemade or store-bought for convenience.
- Serve with sides like chips, fries, or a crisp salad for a balanced meal.
