Ingredients
Bagel Base
- 1 bagel (plain or your preferred)
Toppings
- 2.1 oz lox (smoked salmon, 2-4 slices)
- 2.1 oz cream cheese (2 Tbsp)
- 1 oz cucumber (1/2 small, thinly sliced)
- 0.35 oz red onion (about 1/4 medium onion, thinly sliced)
- 0.07 oz fresh dill (chopped, to taste)
- 1 tsp capers (to taste)
- 1/2 lemon (for a drizzle of juice)
- 1/8 tsp black pepper (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bagel and Vegetables: Cut the bagel in half and toast it if desired for added crunch and flavor. While the bagel is toasting, thinly slice the cucumber and red onion and chop the fresh dill.
- Assemble the Bagel: Spread the cream cheese generously over each toasted half. Layer the thin cucumber slices evenly over the cream cheese, then add the lox slices on top. Follow with slices of red onion, a sprinkle of chopped dill, and capers.
- Finish and Serve: Drizzle fresh lemon juice over the assembled bagel halves and sprinkle with black pepper if using. Enjoy immediately for the best flavor and texture. If needed, wrap tightly and refrigerate for up to a few hours before serving.
Notes
- Toast the bagel to your preferred level for added texture.
- Adjust cream cheese amount to suit your taste - more for extra creaminess.
- Use fresh dill for optimal flavor; dried dill can be a substitute but less vibrant.
- Capers add a salty burst, so add gradually if you prefer less salt.
- Enjoy immediately for the freshest taste and texture.
- Store wrapped tightly in the fridge if you plan to eat later, but avoid storing for too long to prevent sogginess.
